A Survey of Personality and Characterization in the Novel "Al-Nabti" by Yousef Zeydan

Abstract

 


Personality element is one of the most important elements in the fiction literature, through which the author displays his thoughts and emotions. The characters carry the main burden of the story and their narrative narrates with their actions and conversations. Youssef Zeydan (1958-?) Is one of the contemporary Egyptian writers and journalists, and so far many works have been published. Al-Nabti's novel is one of his works, which is very different in the way of writing. This novel illustrates the events in the Arabian lands at the beginning of the introduction of Islam into the land of Egypt.The present research has tried to investigate a variety of personality and personality styles in this novel using descriptive-analytical method. The results show that there are 100 characters in the novel, most of which are just their name in the novel. And 18 main and minor characters are involved in the novels. In terms of characterization methods, we also see the author's work in different ways, including direct and indirect. The results indicate that he has used more indirect methods. And along with traditional characterization, it has used other elements such as color and look and feel for characterization.
